Alan Marshall Short Story Award

The 33rd Alan Marshall Short Story award celebrates the art of writing and honours the life and work of Australian literary icon Alan Marshall. Stories may be up to 2,500 words.

Judge: Maxine Beneba Clarke is the author of the Indie and ABIA award-winning short fiction collection, Foreign Soil, and the critically acclaimed memoir, The Hate Race. Her poetry collection, Carrying The World, won the 2017 Victorian Premier’s Award for poetry. Maxine is the editor of the Best Australian Stories 2017 and writes for The Saturday Paper.

Open Prize: $2,000 plus mentoring hours through Australian Society of Authors (with the ASA mentor of your choice) and a 12-month ASA membership.

Local Prize: $700 plus mentoring hours through Writers Victoria (with the WV mentor of your choice) and a 12-month WV membership.

*A highly commended story in each category will receive a 12-month membership with ASA and WV respectively.

The winning story in each category will be published in the Literary Nillumbik Anthology of writing.

 

Nillumbik Ekphrasis Poetry Award

Poets are invited to respond to newly acquired Baldessin and Friends commemorative folio with poems up to 12-lines.

Judges: Helen Lucas, Steve Smart and Izzy Roberts Orr

Open Prize: $550

Local Prize: $35

Youth Prize: $200 (11-18 years)

The winning poem in each category will be published in the Literary Nillumbik Anthology of writing.
